PROJECT BACKGROUND
Le Cycle du Samouraï is a movie festival concept tailored for a French film organization based in Paris, France. Their mission is to organize screenings, conferences, and exhibitions, as well as preserving and documenting one of the largest archives of material associated with the history of cinema. The idea of the campaign is built upon the celebration of the samurai (referred to as “bushi” in Japanese) that inspired filmmakers from around the world. The three most important themes to communicate were: action, suspenseful, and violent. In this campaign, the target ranges from an adolescent to older audience, including scholars, critics, and art historians. For this project, I designed the following materials: flyers, posters, and street renderings set in different Parisian neighborhoods. My designs intended to create a dark and mysterious atmosphere surrounding the solitary figure of the hero. I privileged vibrant colors for each character and paired fonts for titles and paragraphs. Each flyer includes a line on the reverse, borrowed from Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai written by Yamamoto Tsunetomo.
